The Interaction of Electrons in the Optical Umbra of Venus with the Planetary AtmosphereThe Origin of the Nighttime Ionosphere
نویسنده
چکیده
The ionization produced by electrons having energies of several tens of electron volts in the nighttime Venusian atmosphere is investigated on the basis of plasma measurements made on board Venera 9 and 10. We conclude that electron fluxes are sufficient o produce a nighttime ionosphere with a maximal electron density of l0 • cm -3. Calculated density profiles of the Venusian nighttime ionosphere show shapes closely resembling measured ones with closely agreeing values of maximal density and corresponding altitudes as well.

Variability of F2-layer peak characteristics at low latitude in Argentina for high and low solar activity and comparison with the IRI-2016 model
This work presents the study of the variability of foF2 and hmF2 at a low latitude station in South America (Tucumán, 26.9°S, 294.6°E; magnetic latitude 15.5°S, Argentina). Ground based ionosonde measurements obtained during different seasonal and solar activity conditions (a year of low solar activity, 2009 and one of high solar activity, 2016) are considered in order to compare the ionospheri...
متن کاملThe dependence of the magnetic field strength of a sunspot umbra on its intensity and brightness temperature
A partial decrease of the convective energy by the magnetic field of a sunspot causes the temperature of the magnetized plasma to decrease and this leads to a magneto-hydrostatic equilibrium. Thus, we expect a strong relation between magnetic field strength of a sunspot and its temperature/brightness. Here, we investigate this relation in the umbra of the large sunspot in NOAA10930 using spectr...

For their appropriate temporal resolution, scintillator detectors are used in the Alborz observatory. In this work, the behavior of the scintillation detectors for the passage of electrons with different energies and directions were studied using the simulation code GEANT4. Pulse shapes of scintillation light, and such characteristics as the total number of photons, the rise time and the fallin...
متن کاملTheory of Gas Ionization by Intense Electromagnetic Fields
The distribution function of the electrons produced in the interaction between an intense electromagnetic wave and a neutral gas is derived and is shown to be nonequilibrium and anisotropic. By assuming that the time scale of gas ionization is much greater than the field period, it is shown that the electron distribution function formed in microwave and optical discharges has sharp anisotropy a...
متن کاملThe solar wind interaction with Venus through the eyes of the Pioneer Venus Orbiter
Venus has no internal magnetic dynamo and thus its ionosphere and hot oxygen exosphere dominate the interaction with the solar wind. The solar wind at 0.72AU has a dynamic pressure that ranges from 4.5 nPa (at solar max) to 6.6 nPa (at solar min), and its flow past the planet produces a shock of typical magnetosonic Mach number 5 at the subsolar point. At solar maximum the pressure in the ionos...
